How to Merge Companies in HubSpot
Two records for one customer means two halves of a relationship, and a support team answering with half the context.
Merging two companies
Open the company you are keeping
Go to CRM > Companies and open the record with the correct domain and the fuller history.
Actions, then Merge
Choose Merge from the Actions dropdown at the top of the record, then search for the duplicate company.
Set the primary and confirm
Primary property values win, blanks are filled from the secondary, and contacts, deals and tickets from both records attach to the survivor.
The multiple domains problem
HubSpot associates contacts to companies by email domain, which is elegant until a customer has three domains: the trading name, the legacy brand they acquired, and the regional site.
Merging gives you one company record, and you then add the additional domains to it so future contacts associate correctly. Skip that second step and the duplicate company rebuilds itself within a month.
Frequently asked questions
Can you merge companies in HubSpot?+
Yes, two at a time, from the Actions menu on the company record. It requires Merge records or Super Admin permission.
Can a company merge be undone?+
No. Company merges are permanent like every other HubSpot merge.
What happens to the child companies?+
Parent and child relationships transfer to the surviving record, so check the hierarchy afterwards, especially in a large account structure.
How do I find duplicate companies?+
HubSpot has a built-in duplicate management tool for contacts and companies. See finding duplicates in HubSpot.
Keep the support side aligned
One company, one contact, one ticket per request. Ticket Merger handles that last part on Zendesk and Freshdesk, and HubSpot is coming.
