Freshdesk Login, Sorted

Almost every Freshdesk login problem is one of four things, and the first one accounts for most of them.

Your account has its own URL

Freshdesk accounts live at your own subdomain, in the form yourcompany.freshdesk.com. There is no single global login page that finds your account for you, which is why searching for "freshdesk login" so often leads nowhere useful.

If you don't know your subdomain, search your mailbox for a notification from Freshdesk. Every ticket notification you have ever received contains the URL.

Freshdesk login: agent or customer

There are two different doors. Agents sign in to the agent interface to work tickets. Customers sign in to the support portal to see their own tickets and read the knowledge base.

Being able to log into one and not the other is normal and usually means your email address is registered as a contact rather than an agent, or the reverse.

The four usual causes

Wrong subdomain. By far the most common.
Wrong door. Trying the agent interface with a contact account.
SSO is enforced. If your organisation uses SAML or Google sign-in, the password form may not work at all. Use the SSO button.
The account was deactivated. Deactivated agents keep their ticket history and lose access. An admin has to restore it.

For admins

Two settings save you a lot of tickets: enable SSO so people use credentials they already have, and make sure your portal URL is on your website so customers don't have to remember it.

A customer who can't find your portal emails you instead. If they later find the portal and submit anyway, you get two tickets about one problem, which is a login problem showing up as a duplicate.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Why can't I log in to Freshdesk at all?

Nine times out of ten the URL is wrong. You log in at yourcompany.freshdesk.com, not at freshdesk.com, and an agent account is separate from a contact account on the same portal.

Does Freshdesk SSO change the sign in page?

Yes. With Freshdesk SSO enabled, the Freshdesk sign in page hands you to your identity provider rather than asking for a password, and agents who try to log in through the old password box get nowhere. Keep the fallback URL somewhere safe.

What is my Freshdesk login URL?

Your own subdomain, yourcompany.freshdesk.com. Search old Freshdesk notification emails if you don't know it.

Why can I see the portal but not the agent view?

Your email is registered as a contact rather than an agent. An admin can change that.

We use SSO and the password box doesn't work.

That's expected when SSO is enforced. Use the single sign-on option instead of the password form.

Access problems create duplicates

People who can't get into the portal email instead, then submit anyway. Ticket Merger merges the pair.
