Zendesk and Salesforce, Connected

The point is context: the agent sees who they are talking to, and the account owner sees that their customer is unhappy. Everything else is optional.

What it actually does

The integration surfaces Salesforce account, contact and opportunity data inside the Zendesk ticket, and can push ticket information back so sales sees support activity on the account.

Some teams also sync users and organizations from Salesforce into Zendesk so the two systems agree on who the customer is, which is the part that matters most and gets configured least carefully.

Decide what is authoritative

The most common failure is both systems believing they own the customer record. Pick one, usually Salesforce, and let the other follow.

When they disagree, you get two versions of the same customer in Zendesk, which splits their ticket history and produces duplicate tickets that look like unrelated requests from unrelated people. Identity is the foundation of duplicate detection, and a sloppy sync undermines it directly.

Rules that keep it useful

Sync context, not everything. Agents need the account, the plan and the owner, not the full opportunity history.
Do not push every ticket to Salesforce. Sales will stop looking. Push escalations and churn-risk signals.
Agree what an escalation means before you automate one, or the notification becomes noise within a month.

Frequently asked questions

Does the integration create duplicate contacts?+

It can, when both systems create records independently or the matching key is unreliable. Decide which system is authoritative first.

Is Zendesk or Salesforce Service Cloud better?+

If Salesforce already runs your company and consolidation matters, Service Cloud. If support depth and speed to live matter more, Zendesk.

Split identities, split tickets

When one customer exists twice, their tickets never connect. Ticket Merger matches on domain and content, not just the record.
