Is Zendesk a CRM?
Not really, and the confusion is understandable because Zendesk sells a CRM too. Here is how the pieces fit.
The short answer
Zendesk Support is a customer service platform. It stores users, organizations and every conversation you have had with them, which makes it a system of record for support, not for revenue.
Zendesk Sell is the separate CRM product: deals, pipelines, forecasting, sales activity. Different product, different licence, and the reason people ask this question in the first place.
What Zendesk Support does hold
For many small companies that is enough, and running a separate CRM would add work rather than insight. The moment you need pipeline, forecasting or revenue attribution, it stops being enough.
When you need a real CRM alongside
Three signals, and one is enough.
At that point the choice is a CRM plus an integration, or a platform where support and CRM share one record. That second option is the argument for HubSpot Service Hub, and it is a real one.
The identity problem either way
Whichever route you take, one thing decides whether it works: whether both systems agree on who the customer is.
When they disagree you get two records for one person, split history in both systems, and support tickets that appear unrelated because they are attached to different profiles. See merging users in Zendesk.
Frequently asked questions
Is Zendesk a CRM?+
Zendesk Support is a customer service platform. Zendesk Sell is the CRM, licensed separately.
Can I use Zendesk instead of a CRM?+
For a small company where support is the main customer relationship, often yes. Once you need pipeline and forecasting, no.
What CRMs integrate with Zendesk?+
Salesforce, HubSpot and Pipedrive all have well-supported integrations. See Zendesk integrations.
One customer, one record, one ticket
Split identities produce duplicate tickets that look unrelated. Ticket Merger matches on domain and content, not just the profile.
